ENGL162 FA

Designed for upperclass students who have not yet had a chance to take a creative writing class, this course offers practice in a variety of nonfiction forms, including the narrative essay, profile and personal essay.

MAJOR READINGS

Nonfiction by such writers as Annie Dillard, Joan Didion, William Finnegan, Oliver Sacks, Katha Pollitt, George Orwell, Tim O'Brien, and Robert Stone, and Primo Levi.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Weekly writing assignments.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

Not open to students who have taken ENGL163 or ENGL105. Admission by class year: Seniors first, then juniors. No writing sample required. Apply during the preregistration period using the brief form available at A. Greene's office, 279 Court St., Room 203.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
