Benthic organisms exert strong controls on estuarine chemistry, thus, they play an important role in the spread, abatement, and monitoring of impacted systems. This course examines the effects that organisms have on sediments, sedimentary structures, and sediment geochemistry and their relationships to anthropogenic influences. Its focus is primarily on benthic estuarine and marine communities, although lake sediments will also be considered.
