Principles of Stratigraphy

This course presents review of the classical stratigraphic foundation of geology, followed by an introduction to modern concepts of both theoretical and applied aspects of stratigraphy. Topics covered include depositional systems, facies analysis, seismic stratigraphy and the tectonic implications of basin analysis.

MAJOR READINGS

Roy Lemon, PRINCIPLES OF STRATIGRAPHY
This text will be supplemented by various additional readings from the primary literature.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Three examinations, each of 1 hour duration and covering 1/3 of the course, will be weighted equally.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
