Investigations in Marine Science
E&ES110 SP
This course will consist of field trips, laboratory and computer exercises and discussions designed to supplement the Introductory Oceanography lecture course (E&ES106). Specific exercises include, but are not limited
to a laboratory exploration of
water density, a computer demonstration of sea-floor spreading, an examination of marine sediments, and a field trip to Long Island Sound.
MAJOR READINGS
Photocopied laboratory exercises, journal articles (on reserve in library), one general science book (e.g. THE MEDITERRANEAN WAS A DESERT), Introductory Oceanography text.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Weekly exercises will be graded.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
1) Students must be concurrently enrolled in E&ES106 or have taken E&ES106 during Spring 1997. 2) One all day Saturday field trip in April is required. The trip will include a 2-3 hour cruise on a research vessel and
sampling different marine
environments. 3) There will be a laboratory fee of $30.
