Economics of the Environment
ECON239 SP

This course features an analytical study of the major theoretical and applied issues of environmental economics and resource management. Topics will include the fundamental underpinnings of externalities, alternative control strategies, uncertainties, long-term environmental concerns and resource utilization across a finite globe. Applications will be gleaned from a vast array of issues including clean air and water legislation, acid rain, carbon dioxide and chloroflourocarbons, global warming and oth er global environmental change phenomena.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Occasional problem sets, paper or research project, midterm exam, oral presentations of research.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

ECON271 or equivalent recommended but not necessarily required. In place of MATH117, any calculus course numbered 121 or above or advance placement in calculus will be acceptable. Please note that if you do not match one of the prerequisite listings EXACTLY, then you need a prerequisite override.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
