European Romanticism: Origins of Modernity
COL282 FA

Crosslistings: GERM287,GELT287

The course will explore the proposition that most aspects of what we call modern or postmodern originated in the Romantic revolution around 1800. To validate this hypothesis we will investigate works of theory, literature, painting, and music. Special focus will be on the issues of transgression, the breaking down of borders, and the mingling of forms and genres to access and create new realities.
