Dante, Divine Comedy

A close reading of the DIVINE COMEDY will pay particular attention to the historical and philosophical ambiance of the poem, studied, where possible, through original sources. Students will be expected to keep journals
and to do some imaginative, as
well as analytical writing. Additional study of the original is offered for students who know Italian.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Three papers of about five pages each, two analytical, one imaginative and possibly also a one-page exercise. May give occasional quizzes.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed
Drop/Add form to the Registrar's
Office. Students electing this course should be prepared to read with diligence and commitment, to write with care, and to participate in discussions.
