A Historical Introduction to Literary Criticism

This course will attempt to introduce students to literary criticism through chronologically arranged readings in the work of major theorists and study of the application of their ideas to selected works of poetry, drama, fiction, etc. It will seek to examine representative writings from Aristotle's POETICS to late 20th-century theories.
