This course is a modified form of the typical "Great Books" course, in which the major texts from Greek antiquity are read in the context of the social, historical and economic realities of the culture that produced them. The course encompasses readings in all the major genres and lecture and slide presentations on such topics as law, medicine, religion, women and the family, the military and the ancient economy.
