Galactic Astronomy
ASTR521 FA

The fundamentals of astrophysics are applied to the interstellar medium and the study of the Galaxy. Topics include galactic structure, and evolution, the physics of HI and HII regions, stellar populations, star formation, interstellar dust, etc.

MAJOR READINGS

Several review papers and portions of textbooks.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Several problem sets will be assigned as well as one research paper. There will be one midterm and a final exam.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
