Revolutions in Science and Astronomy
ASTR109 SP

This course features the development of theories to explain observations of natural phonomena in the sky. Coverage extends to many terrestrial and celestial phenomena observable with the naked eye. First is the development of historical and modern theories that are or are not consistent with the phenomena including astrology. Second is the study of the solar system. The changing models of the planets and their atmospheres, including those brought about by space probes, may also be examined. The use of theoretical models and stellar parameters, matched to observations of real planets and stars, can be employed to determine their physical properties and their motions. No mathematics are necessary beyond occasional simple algebra.
