Painting II
ARST440 SP
This course presents a discussion of varying formal and conceptual approaches to visual imagery and issues in contemporary painting. Emphasis on color, composition and paint manipulation continues toward the development
of a personal vision. Class work
includes further work from observation as well as projects initiated by the students, individual and group critiques, and museum and gallery trips.
MAJOR READINGS
A list of suggested readings will be distributed. Nathan Goldstein, PAINTING: VISUAL AND TECHNICAL FUNDAMENTALS, Prentice Hall, 1979, is strongly recommended as a basic reference text.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Regular assignments and final portfolio. Eight hours of independent studio work is required each week throughout the semester. Regular in-class individual and group critiques.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Admission to the course is by portfolio review only. Portfolios must be submitted by the last Thursday of Preregistration, no later than 5:00 p.m. in Studio South, Room 103. Permission of Instructor forms must be picked
up the following day, Friday, in
Studio South, Room 103 by 4:00 p.m Portfolios should contain no more than five paintings and five recent works on paper. Include NAME, BOX #, PHONE #, YEAR OF GRADUATION & MAJOR. Students who preregister during
