Picasso to Post-Modernism: Major Themes in 20th-Century Art
ARHA241 SP

This course considers the visual arts (painting, photography, sculpture) in Europe and America and their relationship to politics, mass culture, and history. Special emphasis will be on the problematics of figuration, the idea of the avant-garde, the body, cultural and sexual difference and modes of artistic production.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

One short writing assignment (3-4 pages), a mid-term exam, and a final exam.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
