This course is intended as an FYI course designed for first-year students with little or no experience in acting, but with an interest in the theater. It will be an introduction to theater through the study of the acting process. Topics will include some theater history and basic elements of various approaches to acting available to the beginning actor. Students will present exercises, monologues and scenes for critique in class.

MAJOR READINGS

The specific readings vary semester to
semester depending on the wishes of the instructor.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

One or more monologues, two or three short scenes, several short essays, final project.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
