This survey course offers a broad overview of the legislative history and immigrant experiences of various Asian American ethnic groups (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Filipino, Asian Indian, Vietnamese, Cambodian, and Laotian). Aspects of the Asian American experience to be examined will include Chinese exclusion, Japanese American wartime internment, the Korean greengrocer phenomenon, Southeast Asian refugee resettlement, anti-Asian violence, and the model-minority thesis.
