This course is an introduction to the systematic study of the social sources and social consequences of human behavior, with emphasis upon culture, social structure, socialization, institutions, group membership, social conformity and social deviance. Sections may have variable content. Students are urged to consult instructors or the department office.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

SECTION 1: Short papers. SECTION 2: Take-home mid-term, take home final, and ongoing journal of reactions to class themes. SECTION 3: Two 10-page take-home exams, a group presentation, and a weekly reading journal. SECTION 4: Short papers, fieldwork report, participation, perfect attendance.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office. SECTION 3: This is a writing intensive section.
