An introduction to the systematic study of the social
sources and social consequences of human behavior, with
emphasis upon culture, social structure, socialization,
institutions, group membership, social conformity and
social deviance. Sections may have variable content.
Students are urged to consult instructors or the
departmental office.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
SECTION 1: Take home
midterm, take home final, and ongoing journal of reactions
to class themes.
SECTION 2: Short papers, class participation, and
final exam.
SECTION 3: 60% (15% each) Four assignments (three typed
pages apiece) 30% Term paper (10 typed pages due at end of
semester). 10% Class participation - For each class one
student will send discussion questions to other class
members by e-mail and help lead that day's discussion--also
attendance and participation in discussions.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Attendance is
REQUIRED. Absence may result in failure or lowered grades.
Discussion sections required. Will be organized in semester.
SECTION 3: In this introductory section I plan for each
class to be divided between one-third lecture and two-thirds
discussion. I will supplement some classes with specially
designed games as well as RELEVANT VIDEOS.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting
or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the
first class, they will be dropped from the class list.
NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form
to the Registrar's Office.
