From ancient to modern times, rabbis have used their imagination to confront the challenges of life as they saw them. This seminar examines literature and material culture for insights into this creative world of thought and action. Topics include the role of utopian government and images of the ancient Temple; readings of received Scripture as keys to ritual and life; and philosophical approaches to rabbinic writings as lenses through which to see changes in Judaism in modern times.
