PSYC382
Advanced Research in Perception and Attention
PSYC382 FA
Not Currently Offered
This course is designed to allow students to conduct
advanced research in perception and attention and to form
part of an active research group. Students might undertake
either a semester-long project or the completion/follow-up
of a research program begun in Research Methods and
techniques in Perception. The lab group will meet weekly to
discuss assigned common readings and to give updates on the
various projects. Readings and projects will represent a
cognitive neuroscience approach to perception and attention;
special emphasis will be placed on the physiological
foundations of cognitive phenomena. Other topics will
include computer simulation and simulations of
neuropsychological deficits. This course would accommodate
honors students, potential honors students, M.A. students
and others considering graduate study in experimental
psychology.
MAJOR READINGS
Course reading will include fundamental
papers on Perception and Attention, from both the
psychological and the physiological literatures, as well
as basic texts on Cognitive Neuroscience. Once students
have a well-defined research interest, individual reading
lists will be devised, with a strong emphasis on original
sources.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
One major-write-up of
experimental findings, presented in scientific journal
style. Drafts of the different sections will be due at
various dates throughout the term.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

to students who have taken courses in: 1. Perception; 2.
Introduction to Cognitive Neuroscience (Mechanisms of the
Mind); 3. Memory: 4. Cognition; 5. Behavioral Neurobiology,

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting
or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the
