Research Methods and Design in Developmental Psychology

This course will review principles of research design as applied to developmental psychology (involving study of children and adolescents from 12 months to 15 years). It considers both observational and experimental research including case studies, cross-section (e.g., cross-age) and longitudinal designs, prediction studies (both prospective and retrospective), and experimental training studies. Focus is on subject selection (and recruitment), choice and design of measures (experimental and standardized), data collection and scoring techniques. Readings include one text and a number of research articles. Class will work through one study together, then work independently (or in small groups) on a topic of their own choosing.
