Research Methods in Psycholinguistics

This course will provide first-hand experience in the principles and methods of research in the psychology of language use. We will focus on selected theoretical concerns, and the experimental techniques used to address them. Small projects for the entire class in the first half of the semester will lay the groundwork for original research projects, to which the second half of the term is devoted.

MAJOR READINGS

Selected papers from contemporary
psychological journals. Selected portions of Solso's BASIC
RESEARCH METHODS, and Sternberg's THE PSYCHOLOGIST'S
COMPANION.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Several class projects, written up as mini-papers. One major individual project, written in journal style. One take-home examination.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

PSYC201 strongly recommended; PSYC264 recommended but not required.
