Topics vary from year to year. The topic for Spring 1999, Mortality, will include philosophical explorations of selected problems in religious thought. There will be a close reading of a few substantial texts, some classical, some post-Kantian, with the aim of stimulating a critical, constructive pursuit of the problems themselves in papers and discussion.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Four 3-5 page papers will be assigned over the course of the term.

Students are advised to elect this course only if they have had some previous course, or the equivalent, in philosophy. This course is also listed as RELI291. Preference to religion and philosophy majors. Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
