This course is a study of major texts representing the principal theories concerning knowledge, reality, and value developed in the 17th and 18th centuries from the standpoints of rationalism (Descartes, Spinoza, Leibniz) and empiricism (Locke, Berkeley, Hume) and concluding with Kant's Copernican Revolution in philosophy.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Two take-home essay exams.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Those registering for Section 02 will have additional assignments at a higher level of difficulty. Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list.
