Music 471 and 472 is a two-semester ensemble course in the
musical arts of the Trinidadian steelband. Students learn
to perform on steelband instruments and study the social,
historical, and cultural context of the ensemble. We also
address issues of theory, acoustics, arranging, and
composing. Readings, recordings, and video viewings
supplement in-class instruction. The ensemble will present
public performances.

Attendance is
required. Graduate players will rehearse separately at a
time to be announced.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting
or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the
first class, they will be dropped from the class list.
NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form
to the Registrar's Office.
