Beginning: Concepts of raga and tala (metrical cycle) are introduced through the medium of the South Indian bamboo flute. Intermediate and advanced: There will be a continuation covering advanced technique and musical forms.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Regular practice of lessons, periodic reading assignments, memorization of technical exercises and compositions; at the end of two semesters, students will give an informal presentation of their work.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

Rudimentary sense of pitch and rhythm is required, along with at least one year's experience with any transverse flute. Admission by interview and audition. Those interested students should sign up in room 313 in the Music Studios. Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
