History of African American Music

This course is a historical analysis of cultural, aesthetic
and spiritual perceptions of African American music. A
multidisciplinary approach to the subject matter is focused
through theoretical, literary and social commentaries. Live
and recorded performances presentations of the many forms of
the African American musical idiom are the primary source.
