Computer Arts
MUSC355 FA
Not Currently Offered
Like a pencil, a computer is a tool shared by many artistic
disciplines, not a medium that defines one. Thus,
phonography, photography, typography, and videography can
share the same workstation while continuing as independent
practices. However, this shared tool also opens
possibilities of new genres that integrate these different
practices. The burgeoning popularity of the Internet has
created a social site that demands such innovations of any
artistic intervention.
Computer Arts is an interdisciplinary seminar that will
explore the new genres possible with these new media. We
will examine works and read theoretical writings in the
related disciplines of radio, video, installation, and
performance that shed light on the possibilities and
pitfalls of the interdiscipline of computer arts.
