Finite Mathematics

This course is an introduction to topics in modern
mathematics that do not depend on limiting processes.
Topics will be drawn from elementary logic, set theory and
finite combinatorics, introductory matrix theory, discrete
probability and linear programming. Emphasis will be on the
concrete with many applications.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Two or 3 hour exams, 1 final
exam; weekly problem sets.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Although there is
no formal prerequisite, a basic mathematical proficiency
(the level provided by MATH107) will be assumed. This
course is not a "science gut."
