This course traces a social and cultural history of ordinary
English people from the origins of the Industrial Revolution
to the present postindustrial society. Equal attention is
given to the lives of men and of women.

One hour examination and a
final examination. Students have the option of writing a
term paper.

preregistered students attend the first class meeting or
communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first
