This course presents the history of those Latin American
nations which have a stong indigenous heritage. The course
will emphasize 20th and 20th century indigenista movements,
social issues, and contemporary political revolutions but
will also cover the colonial period and the historical
construction of Indian identities.

where possible, in a course packet at Atticus.
Additional texts will be added, depending on availability.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Midterm exam, final paper or
exam, two writing exercises, two (4-6 page) papers.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Unless
preregistered students attend the first class meeting or
communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first
class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE:
Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the
Registrar's Office.
