The purpose of this course is to examine theoretical accounts of the alternative ways in which modern societies can organize their political and economic systems, focusing on the choice between capitalism and socialism and their relationship to democracy.

Students electing this course should have some background in social science and political theory or philosophy. GOVT210 or GOVT159 is recommended.
