This is the first part of a two-semester course designed to
develop the basic language skills: speaking, listening,
reading, and writing. Students may expect to acquire the
ability to speak and understand simple German, an
understanding of German grammar, the capacity to read
nontechnical texts and insight into German culture.
Individual language-laboratory work is required. Five
class meetings per week. Students need not schedule their
Tuesday, Thursday sessions for the same time slots as the
Monday, Wednesday, Friday sessions.
