The Western: History and Definition

An in-depth examination of the American western film, this
course will present an overall historical perspective as
well as focus on significant directors, trends and
attitudes, working toward a definition of the genre's
characteristics. Films will be discussed in terms of both
form and content.
MAJOR READINGS
To be assigned.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Midterm and final exams.
Major paper and oral presentation.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Enrollment limited
to 20 film majors at junior and senior level. American
Studies majors will be considered. Permission of Instructor
required. Preregistered students must attend the first
class meeting or be subject to withdrawal from the course.
Enrollment limited to 20. Course fee: $40.00.
