"Opening" the canon has usually meant including ethnic writers whose work conforms to an "acceptable" (mainstream) style/worldview. We will consider why experimental minority poets have been overlooked and how, through formal innovation, they grapple (or do not) with issues of race. Particular focus on African American and Asian American poets.
