This course examines the variety of styles, ethnicities,
genres that constitute what we call Asian American
Literature and argues for the necessity of reading these
texts in dialogue with historical accounts. From an early
English-Chinese phrasebook (1875) to postmodern pieces,
the readings call into question a monologic conception of
Asian American literature.
