This workshop course at the intermediate level requires no previous course in writing needed. Students will read and discuss published short fiction and the work produced by class members.

MAJOR READINGS

from an anthology of short fiction.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Weekly writing and reading assignments for the first half of course. Then, three short stories of about 10 pages each.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

Submit sample of writing to the secretary at English Department (by campus or U.S. mail). Sample should be typed, double-spaced, maximum 10 pages. Don't be skimpy. Fiction or memoir only. No poetry. No critical essays. Manuscripts due September 4, 1998, 4:00 p.m. Include separate page stating name, address, phone, year, major, or prospective major, courses taken at Wesleyan, anything you want the instructor to know about you. The more effort you put into the work you submit, the better your chance of getting into this course. List of people admitted will be posted on the English Department's bulletin board by first class meeting.
