Verse Reading and Writing

This course, for first-year students only, is an
introduction to the disciplines involved in reading and
writing verse. Many basic texts will be examined so that
the student will be well acquainted with excellent models
when writing the weekly assignment. The emphasis is as much
on accurate imitation as on originality. It is designed for
freshmen grown bored with their own free verse.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
One assignment per week. The
student writes a piece of verse based on examples provided
by the tutor.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Students seeking
admission to this course must submit three to five poems to
Sheila Kelleher at 285 Court St., by 4:00 p.m., Sept.
4th. Material must include the names of the author, the
course number, a mailbox number and a phone number if
available. A list of those accepted will be posted in the
English Department by the first day of class. You may
not pre-register for this course. Registration to be done
during Drop/Add period.
Unless registered students attend the first class meeting
or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the
first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE:
Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the
Registrar's Office.
