This course analyzes government's influence on economic efficiency, resource allocation, income distribution and economic growth. It covers government spending, regulation and tax policy. Concepts discussed include tax incidence, public goods, benefit-cost analysis, market imperfections and externalities. Reference is made to issues of health care and the financing of education, the United States tax system, the federal budget and the congressional budget process.
