Topics covered in this course include the role and
significance of larger corporations in the U.S. economy; the
analysis of market structure and its influence on corporate
strategy--of pricing policy, advertising, research and
development, mergers, location, product characteristics,
technical change, investment and capacity utilization as
they affect market performance; market failure and the uses
of power.
MAJOR READINGS
A current textbook in industrial economics.
Articles from various journals.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Several exams; final exam as
scheduled by the Registrar; several papers and/or problems
sets. Class discussion of specific industries and corporate
behavior.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Staying current
with assignments, and participating in class discussion.
Maximum enrollment is 35.
Please note that if you do not match one of the prerequisite
listings EXACTLY, then you need a prerequisite override.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class
meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to
the first class, they will be dropped from the class list.
