Physical Chemistry III: Statistical Thermodynamics and Chemical Dynamics

This course covers the fundamentals of statistical thermodynamics; elementary applications to crystalline solids; molecular liquids; electrolyte solutions and chemical reactions in the gas phase and in solution; kinetic theory; transport and diffusion; chemical kinetics; absolute reaction rate theory; and molecular reaction dynamics. The course begins with a brief review of equilibrium thermodynamics. This is a survey physical chemistry course for first-year graduate students, required for the Ph.D. It may be taken as a third semester of undergraduate physical chemistry by senior chemistry majors but is not a formal requirement.
