Descriptive Meteorology

This course offers a descriptive survey of meteorology and of our atmosphere. Weather includes atmospheric processes such as air circulation, air temperature and pressure, clouds and precipitation, wind, weather fronts, lows and highs. Climate includes climate types mostly of North America, ice ages and interglacial periods and their causes, and past and current changes in climate and their influence on human history and our present environment.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Two or three hour examinations and a final examination are probable.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

This course is open to all students and presumes no prerequisites in science or mathematics. It is intended for all with a curiosity about weather and its forecasts and maps in the media or about climate and its change.
