This course presents a discussion of varying formal and
conceptual approaches to visual imagery and issues in
contemporary painting. Emphasis on color, composition and
paint manipulation continues toward the development of a
personal vision. Class work includes further work from
observation as well as projects initiated by the students,
individual and group critiques, and museum and gallery
trips.
MAJOR READINGS
A list of suggested readings will be
distributed.
Nathan Goldstein, PAINTING: VISUAL AND TECHNICAL
FUNDAMENTALS, Prentice Hall, 1979, is strongly recommended
as a basic reference text.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Regular assignments and final
portfolio. Eight hours of independent studio work is
required each week throughout the semester. Regular
in-class individual and group critiques.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Admission to the
course is by portfolio review only. Portfolios must be
submitted by the last Thursday of Preregistration, no later
than 5:00 p.m. in Studio South, Room 103. Permission of
Instructor forms must be picked up the following day,
Friday, in Studio South, Room 103 by 4:00 p.m Portfolios
should contain no more than five paintings and five recent
works on paper. Include NAME, BOX #, PHONE #, YEAR OF
GRADUATION & MAJOR.
Students who preregister during In-Semester must contact
the Secretary of the Art Department for details.
Materials fee: $100.00.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting
or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the
first class, they will be dropped from the class list.
NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form
to the Registrar's Office.
