Survey of East Asian Archaeology

The regional and temporal focus of this course is East
Asia--China, Japan, and Korea--from the Paleolithic period
through the Bronze Age. Some of the issues that will be
addressed include the invention and development of
agriculture and technology, political organization, burial
practice, artistic achievement, and religious beliefs. This
concise survey is based on archaeological finds; emphasis
will be given to the artifacts that represent the artistic
achievements of each culture during the successive stages,
from the emergence of human beings to the formation of
Eastern Asian civilization.

1995. Final exam: The exam will be comprehensive.

Grading procedures:
The final grade will be based on the following:
Class attendance and participation: 20%
Paper: 30%
Final exam 50%
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting
or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the
first class, they will be dropped from the class list.
NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form
to the Registrar's Office.
