This lecture survey analyzes trends in the visual arts and
patterns of patronage in the United States during the last
quarter of the 19th century with specific reference to the
impact of the Centennial Exhibition at Philadelphia in 1876
and the World's Columbian Exposition at Chicago in 1893.
