This survey course includes topics on photography from the
1830s to the present, with emphasis on the social uses of
the medium, 19th-century documentary, pictorialism, the
emergence of modernism, the post-Frank generation, and
contemporary trends.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Three short papers, one term
paper, midterm examination.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
The class is
limited to 40.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting
or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the
first class, they will be dropped from the class list.
NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form
to the Registrar's Office.
The class will meet for slide lectures and discussions with
original photographs from the Davison Art Center
collection.
