Great Monuments of Asian Architecture

This course aims to acquaint students with the methods of
formal and historical analysis of works of architecture,
and simultaneously, to introduce something of the variety
and complexity of architectural traditions in Asia. This
is done through in-depth examination of three key monuments,
each exemplifying a distinct building tradition and posing
a different set of theoretical and methodological problems.

Regular attendance and reading
of all assigned materials. Participation in class
discussions. Three short essays; midterm and final

Unless
preregistered students attend the first class meeting or
communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first
class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE:
Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the
Registrar's Office.
