A study of anthropological interpretations of social and
cultural systems through the ethnographic analysis of
single societies. The course focuses on our changing
understandings of beliefs, meanings, values and social
relationships through accounts of selected African, Asian
and Middle Eastern communities. Students will learn
how anthropologists use theoretical perspectives to
understand cultures and societies and how attempts at such
understandings have changed anthropological interpretations.
