Junior Colloquium: Culture and Politics in the Progressive Era, 1890-1917

The course studies the relationship between culture and
politics during the first great crisis of "modernization" in
the U.S. We will study a variety of texts--novels,
political documents, histories, films--to see how different
forms of expression were used to develop an ideological
response to the crisis. We will be particularly concerned
with the themes of nationality, racism, social violence and
corporatism.

Unless
preregistered students attend the first class meeting or
communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first
class, they will be dropped from the class list.
NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form
