Weekly assignments are designed to highlight various aspects
of craft and to encourage students to explore and examine
form, content and context. Readings will emphasize the work
of African American writers. Students will analyze
critical essays representing a wide range of poetics.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Weekly assignments, one oral
presentation, one 8-10 page paper, final manuscript.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Students must
submit a 6-page typed writing sample consisting of no fewer
than three poems to the Center for African American Studies
by 5:00 on Friday, November 6th, by campus or U.S. mail.
Include a separate sheet listing name, phone, campus
address, year, major, related Wesleyan courses and reasons
for wanting the course. A class list will be posted by the
first day of classes in CAAS. This is a Drop/Add course.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting
or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the
first class, they will be dropped from the class list.
NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form
to the Registrar's Office.
