The course begins with and examines Audre Lorde's claim that
"we have no patterns for relating across our human
differences as equals." Various models of leadership for
creating such patterns and for building community will be
studied. Different kinds of decision-making and community
action will be examined for their suitability for solving
social problems. The course will pursue and explore many
examples of individual and communal leadership, especially
those that initially were not recognized by the mainstream
but went on to effect significant changes locally, socially
and/or globally. Most importantly, students will examine,
evaluate, and propose their own ideas, plans, and activities
for socially responsible and politically effective
leadership.

Exceptions to the
prerequisite course will be made if the course is not fully
enrolled by In-Semester registration. Any exceptions will
be made during the Drop/Add period.
Unless preregisterd students attend the first class meeting
or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the
first class, they will be dropped from the class list.
NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form
to the Registrar's Office.
